José Jaime Villalobos is a Teaching Fellow at Victoria University of Wellington. He recently concluded his doctoral thesis, which focuses on the past, present, and future role of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights in social protection, from the perspective of Karl Polanyi’s theory of the double movement. His research interests lie at the intersection of public international law, inequality, and collective decision making. José received an LLM (international law) from the University of Cambridge in 2017, after being awarded a Chevening Scholarship. He is originally from Costa Rica, where he has held roles in government, private practice, and not-for-profit organisations.
