How should global governance for artificial intelligence account for change? In the past decade AI technology has made remarkable progress; within the next, it may become a transformative technology with global impact. We are at a crossroads in the governance for AI: there is an urgent need—and opportunity—to ensure that the institutions and instruments of global governance are up to the task of governing the diverse challenges created by AI technology.
